Hello. I was led to your blog after reading the wonderful article on Justice Scalia on the Register home page. I clicked upon this post because I am considering applying for a scholarship entitled "Bread Upon the Waters" and was anxious to read what you had to say about this line.... There is nothing to read. Am I to hope that this is an "inspiration" for me? I think I will do that. Thank you for giving me a bit of hope!
The only place I've heard the phrase is the Bible, Ecclesiates 11:1 (don't be impressed: here's my secret search engine: http://www.drbo.org/). I took it as an exhortation to something between magnanimity and charity ... as hopeful things, of course!

Hi Nancy,
